Life in Newcastle is spread across distinctive neighbourhoods. A week might centre on Hamilton, Mayfield or Wallsend, with occasional trips into the city. The support you choose should take account of the places you actually use and the routines you want to keep.
Makodah Care provides disability support across Newcastle. Start with what you need at home, where you want to spend time and the assistance that would make your day more manageable. Your suburb is part of the picture; your preferences and support needs give it meaning.
Our lived experience model keeps your priorities at the centre of planning in Newcastle. We ask about the places you already know, the people you want involved and your preferences for a worker. The support plan should reflect your life across the city.
Keep familiar places in the plan
Newcastle’s local centres offer different starting points for everyday activities, from the shopping streets of Mayfield and Hamilton to neighbourhood centres in Wallsend and New Lambton. You may already have a preferred shop, regular activity or place to meet friends.
Tell us which connections matter to you. Community participation can begin with a familiar routine, and it can also involve trying somewhere new. A location’s individual access arrangements should be checked against your needs before an outing is agreed.
Think beyond the appointment time
An activity in another part of Newcastle may involve preparation, travel, finding the right entrance and getting home. When you enquire, include the whole routine and explain where assistance is needed. This is especially useful when personal care, transport and community support overlap.
If you are considering support at home, describe the days, approximate times and tasks involved. A clear picture helps the team assess the proposed arrangement rather than make assumptions from the name of a service.
Make an informed start
Makodah Care contacts every new referral within three business days. Intake includes a pre-risk assessment and a meet and greet. Participants meet their support workers before supports begin, with the agreed arrangement recorded in a service agreement and support plan.
You can involve a family member, coordinator or another trusted person if you choose. Regular reviews provide an opportunity to discuss what is working and what you would like to change.
