Make room for the things you enjoy.

A reason to get out can be as simple as a favourite café, a local interest or time with someone whose company you enjoy. It can also mean trying an unfamiliar place or building confidence to join a group. You choose what being involved looks like.

Makodah Care offers community, social and group activity support. The starting point is your interests and the assistance that would make participation workable. There is no need to have a long list of goals before beginning a conversation.

Our lived experience model starts with your idea of a good day. A quiet catch-up, a favourite activity or a new group may each call for a different approach. We ask what you enjoy, what gets in the way and how you want a worker to support your participation.

Follow your interests

Think about what you already enjoy and what you would like to explore. That might be a creative activity, a library visit, shopping, time outdoors, a community event or catching up with friends. These are possibilities to discuss, rather than a fixed activity timetable.

The right plan also considers what you do not enjoy. Busy environments, long days or unfamiliar routines may make an outing less appealing. A shorter visit, a quieter setting or time to look around before joining in may be a better starting point.

Consider the whole outing

Getting to an activity is only one part of taking part. It helps to discuss travel, meeting points, access requirements, communication, breaks, personal care and the trip home. Let us know which parts you want help with and which you prefer to manage yourself.

For group activities, ask about the proposed group, setting, support arrangement and any costs before deciding. Availability and suitability need to be confirmed. You should have enough information to decide whether the activity interests you.

Build connection at your pace

A useful goal might be attending regularly, becoming familiar with a place or choosing an activity independently. It can also be simply enjoying the time. Participation does not have to look the same for everyone or produce a particular milestone.

Our intake includes a meet and greet before supports begin. Your support plan records the arrangement, and regular reviews make room to discuss what you would like to continue, stop or try next. You can ask for a change of worker at any time.

Clear answers

A few things you might be wondering.

Do I need to join a group?

Tell us whether you prefer individual support, group activities or a combination. The appropriate arrangement depends on your preferences, needs and the options available. Group participation is a choice to discuss.

Can I keep attending an activity I already enjoy?

Include it in your enquiry. Share the location, usual times and the assistance you need so support can be considered around an existing interest or connection.

Are tickets, meals and travel included?

Ask for a clear explanation of support charges and any separate activity, entry, food or travel costs before agreeing. Do not assume that an activity cost is included in the support arrangement or covered by your plan.
