Thinking about a home means considering the people, routines and places that make daily life work for you. We start with those priorities when discussing supported living.

This page is a place to explore the questions and make an enquiry. Current property options, availability and suitability need to be discussed with our team; a listing or enquiry is not a confirmed housing offer.

Lived experience shapes the way we discuss home: the people you feel comfortable with, the privacy you want and the choices you want to keep making. Our model gives those everyday details a place alongside support needs, housing arrangements and practical planning.

Separate the home from the support

Supported Independent Living, or SIL, funds help with daily life. It does not pay for ordinary living costs such as rent, groceries or household bills. The NDIS home and living guide explains the different options and the costs participants remain responsible for.

Makodah Care’s Participant Handbook describes separate support and housing agreements. Read both carefully and ask how they work together, including what happens if you want to change your support provider. You can seek independent tenancy advice before deciding.

Consider what makes a home suitable

Think about access, personal space, transport, nearby relationships and the routines you want to keep. If you are considering sharing, think about noise, visitors, meal preferences and how shared spaces would work.

Our handbook sets out a process for housemate matching in supported homes. Residents have a say and can meet a prospective housemate. Household meetings provide a place to discuss shared arrangements and raise things that need attention.

Bring the practical questions

An enquiry can start with the area you are considering, the support you need and any timing or accessibility requirements. Relevant plans help us discuss the arrangements that would be required. You can involve a supporter or advocate.

  • What support would be agreed for my needs?
  • What housing costs would I need to pay?
  • How would I have a say about workers and housemates?
  • What happens if I want to change my support or housing arrangement?

Take time to decide

A home should give you space for your own decisions, visitors and privacy. You can ask for written information, visit an option when one is available and seek advice before signing an agreement.
