Looking at housing options or managing a tenancy can involve forms, appointments and several different organisations. It helps to identify the immediate question, the information you have and the support you need to take the next step.
Makodah Care offers tenancy and accommodation help as part of its disability support services. The focus is practical assistance that reflects your circumstances and choices. An enquiry does not guarantee a property, a successful application or a particular housing outcome.
Lived experience keeps the everyday meaning of housing in the conversation: privacy, familiar relationships, access and the routines you want to keep. We help you work through practical questions while respecting your right to seek independent advice and choose your support provider.
Start with the issue in front of you
You may be exploring a move, preparing information for an application or trying to keep track of tenancy-related tasks. Explain what is happening now, any important dates and which parts are difficult to manage. That gives the conversation a useful focus.
Possible support to discuss includes organising documents, preparing for appointments, making a list of questions and communicating your preferences. The agreed tasks should make clear what you want assistance with and which decisions remain yours.
Consider the home and daily life together
Housing decisions affect more than an address. Location, the people you might live with, access requirements and the services you use can all matter. A proposed move may also mean changes to transport, household routines and existing support arrangements.
If Supported Independent Living is part of the discussion, keep the support arrangement separate from the housing questions. SIL funding pays for support and does not cover rent or ordinary living expenses. Property suitability and any vacancies need separate confirmation.
Know when specialist advice is needed
A tenancy dispute or a question about your legal rights may require an independent tenancy advice service or legal assistance. Practical disability support does not replace that advice. You can use the advocacy and tenancy information in our Resources section to explore appropriate contacts.
For an agreed Makodah Care service, intake includes a pre-risk assessment and a meet and greet, followed by a service agreement and support plan. Regular reviews allow you to discuss whether the assistance is still useful as your housing situation develops.
